When walking through the east part of the Old Town you come upon the former Franciscan church. The choir, which still towers up nowadays, gives you an idea of the strong sense of mission the Franciscan Order had when building this church between 1270 and 1290. The stained-glass windows in the choir are of great value and the choir is an important example of early Gothic architecture. Up to the Reformation the Franciscans played an important role in the densely populated lower town of Esslingen. Later large parts of the cloister were pulled down. In 1840 the nave was demolished. The present-day parish hall was built in its place in 1929/30.
