Guided tour of the Old Town Hall
The Old Town Hall, the most beautiful half-timbered building and landmark of Esslingen, is waiting to be explored!
In addition to the Esslingen Castle and the Parish Church of St. Dionysius, the Old Town Hall is one of the landmarks of the City of Esslingen. It is best explored during a guided tour, as the half-timbered building is not open to the public. The former market hall and tax house was built in 1422 and embellished by Heinrich Schickhardt in 1586. It displays two magnificent sides: The mighty half-timbered façade in the south and the façade with Renaissance gable in the north. Unique to southern Germany is the carillon on the Old Town Hall. Explore with us the former market hall, the historical clock mechanism, the assembly hall decorated with figures, the stucco hall on the upper floor as well as Germany’s oldest operating astronomical tower clock.
